Level I

Introduction to Kabbalah: The first year curriculum consists of three classes that cover the dimensions of reality as defined by the Kabbalah – Soul, Space and Time.  All Level I classes are open to new students, however, it is recommended that new students start with the Soul class.  An elective class on Mystical Hebrew Letters is also offered periodically.  The first year curriculum of Soul, Space and Time serves as a foundation for advanced study and should be completed prior to enrolling in Level II classes.

Soul, Space and Time

Soul: In this class we explore the core teachings of the Kabbalah relating to how the world came to be, the underlying source of energy and language and the parallel realities of physical and spiritual existence. Students open up to a new awareness of the unseen world and the unity of creation in their lives. The meditation we learn is taken from the Zohar and translated means: There is no place empty of You.

Space: All of physical reality is layered and flows ‘down’ from higher worlds. The Tree of Life is the basic map of spiritual reality unique to the Kabbalah. It describes the process of the infinite becoming manifest as finite reality.  Students learn to apply the Tree of Life as a tool to change the metaphors of their lives.

Time (spring): There is no past or future only the present moment. This spiritual teaching about time is illustrated through the Kabbalah’s insights into Shabbat (the Sabbath), the counting of each day between Passover and the holiday of Shavuot (Weeks) and a deepening an awareness that the world is re-created in each moment.

Other Beginning Classes:

In Tune with Time: Based on the earliest Kabbalistic teachings, this class provides insights into the different energies of the Jewish year.  Living in tune with time means to live in the cycle of the Jewish holidays and the weekly Torah portions.  This class is held twice a month.  Instructor: Teena Slatkin

Kabbalah & Buddhism – How Kabbalists and Buddhists Engage Life: In this class we will look at practical applications of Kabbalistic and Buddhist thought as it applies to the rituals of the life cycle  (birth through death and rebirth), daily living (eating, sleeping) and spiritual practice (meditation, compassion and non-violence).  Teachers: Dr. Lorell Frysh and Dr. David Sanders (not offered every semester)

Mystical Hebrew Letters: The early Kabbalah was focused primarily on the Hebrew letters and language and how this code underlies all of creation. The beauty of the letters is expressed through their meaning, their shape and name and their numerical value. The Hebrew letters are containers for the Sefirot and the energies of time, including the months of the year. The letters contain a teaching about the 12 Spiritual Senses of the soul found in the oldest Kabbalah text-Sefer Yetzirah (The Book of Formation). (not offered every semester)

Classes are held at the Goldberger Center, 3599 S. Ivanhoe Street, Denver, CO 80237 and at the Denver Jewish Community Center, 350 S. Dahlia Street, Denver, CO 80246.  For a map of the Goldberger Center, click here.  For a map of the JCC, click here.
