Kabbalah Experience CSA
You’ve probably heard about Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA. Here’s how it works: You pay a local farmer in advance of the growing season to produce food. Your return is a share of the food they grow and raise.
For three years, Kabbalah Experience students Lisa Hartman and Laurie Brock have been CSA shareholders in Grant Family Farms near Ft. Collins. They think of it as an investment. Here’s what they have to say:
We chose to become CSA members of Grant Family Farms because they do so many things right. First and foremost, the wide variety of organic food they grow and raise is amazing. They focus on sustainability, and are always looking for new and better ways to farm efficiently, raise animals humanely, and take care of their workers. Organization and communication is superb—they email a weekly newsletter to shareholders, with a description of what to expect in our delivery, and a few recipes to enhance our enjoyment. We have toured the farm twice to learn about what they do and how they do it.
For our purposes, one single veggie share and one dozen eggs is enough for our two-person families to split. Over 26 weeks, the cost for each couple works out to less than $12.00 a week. Grant delivers our weekly share to a location nearby. We pick up it up on the same day, between the same hours, every week. Sometimes the spinach was picked that morning, and the eggs laid the previous day. The taste of freshly farmed food is unbeatable, and the pleasure we get from supporting the farm is the next best thing to growing it ourselves, and without the back-breaking work.
Being CSA members does take time. After we pick up our food, we process it, meaning that we take time to clean and store it properly, and think about how soon it needs to be eaten and how to prepare it. We try our best to eat what’s in our refrigerator before it spoils, or give away the things we just don’t care for. Both of us have developed a new consciousness about how and what we eat.
By planting a variety of hardy autumn crops, Grant has managed to extend their growing season late into the fall. They encourage us to think and learn about what foods are in season, and about various food preservation methods. When the CSA season ends and we’re back in the grocery stores after six-months of farm-to-table food, we search for locally grown produce, and envision the bountiful Colorado growing season to come.
To join with the Kabbalah Experience community in supporting Grant Family Farms, here are all the details you need to know:
What is a Share?

How do I sign up?
To sign up, you need to contact Grant Family Farms directly. You can sign up on their website or call Josh at 970-568-7654. Or you can call or stop by the KE office for a hard copy (simple) registration form. The sooner you sign up, the better the price!
Please indicate on the registration form that your business is Kabbalah Experience and that is who is referring you. Kabbalah Experience members will be able to pick up from any of the drop off locations throughout the front range (click here for a complete list), but we hope that a majority will be able to pick up from the Denver Academy of Torah so we can see each other each week. The DAT pick up location is new this year and is not yet listed on the Grant Family Farms website, so when you sign up, pick another location close to you and then you can switch to DAT when it becomes active.
If you are looking to share your share please check in with our office to find out who may be a willing partner. Please call us at 303-321-7729 or email admin@kabbalahexperience if you become a shareholder.
